Delegations

Shawn Dyer, a representative from Spinal Cord Injury Alberta presented to City Council to thank them for their commitment, leadership and generosity towards creating accessible spaces. City Council received the presentation for information.

Barrier-Free Grant

Grande Prairie City Council approved the Barrier-Free Grant, a new grant from the Economic Recovery Fund, in the amount of $125,000. The grant acts as an immediate and direct economic stimulus for Grande Prairie, while also encouraging the enhanced physical accessibility to existing properties and buildings. Policy 318 – Update Waiver of Fees

Grande Prairie City Council adopted changes to the Land Use Bylaw that allow a waiver of fees for businesses applying to change their designated use to a restaurant and drinking establishment major/minor.

The new designation of building use allows establishments to operate as restaurants during the day and drinking establishments at night.

Grande Prairie High-Performance Sports Centre Proposal

Council is exploring the concept for a High-Performance Sports Centre in the region, and upon receiving a viable business case will work with the Grande Prairie Regional Recreation Committee on a joint funding agreement with regional municipal partners.

2021 Tax Deadline

Council directed staff to bring to council bylaw amendments and implement procedures to:

  • establish August 31, 2021, as the property tax deadline for residential and non-residential;
  • eliminate the July penalty deadlines; and
  • waive the Tax Installment Payment Plan sign-up fees and NSF charges until August 31, 2021.

Land Use Bylaw Amendment C-1260-133 – Secondary Suites Regulations

In response to a proposed amendment submitted from BILD Grande Prairie, City Council approved amendments to the Land Use Bylaw that increase the opportunity for the development of secondary suites.
