The City of Grande Prairie continues to invest in the City’s road network as part of the Road Rehabilitation and Overlay Program.

Full Road Reconstruction

On Friday, August 14 crews begin a full road reconstruction in both southbound lanes of 116 Street between 97 Avenue and 84 Avenue to better accommodate current and future traffic volumes.

Southbound traffic will be rerouted to one of the northbound lanes. The two northbound lanes will be converted to accommodate two-way traffic for the duration of construction. Motorists are advised to anticipate some traffic delays in the area.

Pathway access on the west side of 116 Street will be maintained during construction, however, some pathway detours may occur.

Construction is anticipated to be complete by mid-September.

Full-Depth Reclamation Throughout the City

Crews begin full depth reclamation and road overlays at multiple locations throughout the city.

Full-depth reclamation consists of pulverizing the existing road surface and mixing it into the road base structure. Cement and asphalt are mixed into the structure and compacted, then new asphalt is laid overtop.

On August 17, a full-depth reclamation is set to begin on 88C Street between 104 Avenue and 112 Avenue, weather permitting. The project will result in reduced speeds, but traffic is always expected to be maintained.

Crews will then begin full-depth reclamation in the following locations:

  • Royal Oaks Drive between 105 Street and 103B Street
  • 120 Street between 100 Avenue and 101 Avenue; 101 Avenue between 120 Street and 116 Street
  • 78 Avenue from West End of roadway to 108A Street, 108A Street from 78 Avenue to 79 Avenue, and 79 Avenue from 108 Street to 108A Street

Motorists are reminded to drive with caution near construction zones, obey all posted signage, and follow the direction of flag persons if present. We appreciate the patience and understanding of residents during construction.

In 2020, the City of Grande Prairie is investing $20.5 million in projects that improve the road network. For more information on planned projects, visit the City’s website.
