The City of Grande Prairie is reminding residents that 24 hours notice is required when applying for a Vehicle Access Permit and that RV vehicles may not be parked on the road for more than 48 hours.

Vehicle Access Permit

Vehicle Access Permits grant permission to drive a vehicle over any City-owned land such as a park, boulevard or Public Utility Lot. Applications are free.

Permit applications can be downloaded online at cityofgp.com/vehicleaccess completed and emailed to parktranadmins@cityofgp.com.

A minimum of 24 hours notice is required when applying to ensure Parks Operations staff are able to complete pre-inspections before approving or declining the permit. Applicants will receive an email confirmation when a permit is approved.

For weekend access (Saturday and Sunday), forms must be submitted no later than 3:00 p.m. on Thursday.

This application is required pursuant to the Use of Public Lands Bylaw C-1078. The City reserves the right to refuse access and applicants will be contacted with details if this occurs.

RV Parking

Residents are reminded that recreational vehicles and trailers are not permitted to be parked on the road for over 48 hours, according to Traffic Bylaw C-1166.

Regular trailers, other than travel trailers can not be disconnected and left on the road.  A person can not occupy a trailer parked on the road.

From April 1 to October 31 inclusive, on a residential site with no rear lane, one large recreational vehicle may be parked on an approved driveway in the front yard or, in the case of a corner lot, in a side yard, as long as the vehicle is set back at least 1.5 metres from the interior edge of the sidewalk, or where no sidewalk exists, from the curb.

Allowance may be given to residents who may be using trailers for self-isolation.
