Delegations

  • The Salvation Army presented information on the state of food insecurity in Grande Prairie. Council received the presentation for information and discussed that $200,000 in funding was allocated to the Salvation Army as part of the 2023 budget. 
  • Jen England presented information on an event series. Council directed the Mayor to determine the appropriate support.
  • Laura Grey presented as a delegation regarding a development in the Grande Banks neighbourhood. City Council directed administration to report back to the appropriate standing committee with opportunities to regulate ‘apartels’ in the city and information regarding the development referenced by the delegation.
  • Clarence Bidne presented to City Council regarding permission for backyard roosters. Council received the presentation for information.

Council Member Appointments

Council appointed Mayor Clayton and Councillors Bressey and Pilat to the Intermunicipal Development Planning Committee.

Business Improvement Area Budget Review

City Council identified March 6 at 3 pm as the time to review and approved the 2023 Business Improvement Area budget, as presented.

City Council directed administration to notify the businesses within the Business Improvement Area (BIA) of the above date by letter and provide a copy of the proposed 2023 BIA budget.

2024 National Aboriginal Hockey Championship

City Council approved funding for the 2024 National Aboriginal Hockey Championship from the Arctic Winter Games Legacy Fund.

Council directed administration to submit a letter of intent and complete the bid submission form to host the 2024 National Aboriginal Hockey Championship.

City Events Strategy

  • City Council adopted the City Events Strategy as presented. Learn more in the media release.
  • Council amended the parade float fee for non-profit organizations from $10 per float to free.
  • Council amended the parade float fee for for-profit organizations from $100 per float to $50.00 per float.
  • Council directed administration to prepare amendments to the Fees, Rates & Charges Bylaw to reflect the parade float fee.

Land Options for Proposed Soccer Facility

City Council referred the discussion on a proposed soccer facility to the appropriate standing committee.

Public Hearing - Land Use Bylaw Amendment C-1260-167

City Council approved an amendment to the land use bylaw to permit the direct control district 14, located near 102 Street between 104 Avenue and 105 Avenue, to be additionally used as Commercial Business Centre, Local.

Public Hearing - Land Use Bylaw Amendment C-1260-168

Council approved an amendment to the land use bylaw to expand the current direct control district 32 by rezoning from Combined Residential to Site Specific Direct Control District. The new zoning permits secondary suites to be developed in bareland conodos dwellings.
