On Thursday, June 15, 2023, roadway construction begins on 116 Avenue to enhance the safety and efficiency of the roadway for residents and visitors alike.
"We are eager to begin this infrastructure project, which will enhance road conditions and ensure the longevity of the 116 Avenue roadway between the Bear Creek Bridges and 102 Street," said Capital Construction Supervisor, Mark Hoseasson.
The scope of the project includes several components, such as underground storm lead replacements, concrete work, roadway asphalt milling, full-depth reclamation, paving and line marking. These measures are designed to improve the overall road conditions and ensure the longevity of the infrastructure.
During construction, motorists should anticipate one-lane alternating traffic on 116 Avenue. The City urges all commuters to exercise caution and follow the directional signage. We kindly request your patience and cooperation as we strive to minimize traffic disruptions and complete the project.
As a result of the construction activities, the following intersections with 116 Avenue are affected: 102 Street, 105 Street, 106 Street, and 108 Street.
Temporary closures and detours will be implemented to ensure the safety of both motorists and pedestrians. Signage and alternative routes will be in place to assist drivers in navigating the affected areas.
To ensure safety, pedestrians and cyclists can travel through detours at the intersections of:
- 106 Street/116 Avenue
- 108 Street/116 Avenue
The intersection at 105 Street and 116 Avenue remains accessible for pedestrian traffic, with occasional flag person control when construction operations occur nearby.
