Grande Prairie Enforcement Services remind residents and property owners to clear snow and ice from sidewalks adjacent to their property within 24-hours of the most recent snowfall or deposit of ice.

Pedestrians rely on sidewalks as an important transportation connection and keeping them clear during winter conditions helps maintain safe and accessible neighbourhoods.

Sidewalks covered with snow and ice significantly reduce mobility and create potentially dangerous situations for pedestrians.

Residents are responsible for clearing snow or ice, and it may not be pushed onto a public roadway (except downtown). Due to recent weather causing severely icy sidewalks, the City has received many complaints of icy or snow-covered sidewalks in neighbourhoods.

Enforcement Services takes an education first approach to inform the homeowner of their responsibility and to create a safe environment for all sidewalk users. Per the City of Grande Prairie Traffic Bylaw residents who do not clear their sidewalk may be subject to a fine.

If the public has any concerns or questions regarding sidewalk clearing they are encouraged to contact the City by dialling 3-1-1 or e-mailing info@cityofgp.com.
