Grande Prairie’s Local Immigration Partnership Council encourages all residents to participate in Welcoming Week, running from September 8 to 17.
Welcoming Week is an internationally observed occasion that champions the contributions and significance of newcomers and immigrants in communities worldwide. It is an annual opportunity to recognize the people, places and value that make up our community, and help foster a sense of belonging.
Residents are encouraged to spend the week finding ways to support their neighbours, new and longstanding, by introducing yourself, volunteering with local organizations that support immigration and settlement, or inviting new neighbours out to local events and activities around the community.
“Grande Prairie is proud to commemorate Welcoming Week alongside communities across the country to help newcomers feel at home and get involved locally,” Says Mayor Jackie Clayton. “We invite everyone to join in, celebrate the diversity of our community, and help work together in building a welcoming Grande Prairie for everyone.”
