The City of Grande Prairie and County of Grande Prairie are partnering to install traffic lights at the intersection of 108 Street and 132 Avenue, improving motorist and pedestrian safety for residents from both municipalities and students of St. John Paul II Catholic School.
The City and County councils agreed to share the cost of the traffic light installation with each municipality paying 50 per cent of the total cost, which is estimated at $400,000.
The City is in the early stages of planning additional upgrades in the area, including realigning and rebuilding the road structure along 108 Street between 132 Avenue and the north City limit, additional traffic lights at the intersection of 132 Avenue and Arbour Hills Boulevard near St. John Paul II Catholic School, as well as paving and the installation of a walkway to the existing paved walkway in the County – connecting the two subdivisions.
Work will commence this fall and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2022.
