City Council Highlights For the Meeting Held October 25, 2021

Oath of Office

Grande Prairie Mayor and City Council took the Oath of Office and were sworn into their positions.

Mayor’s Address

Mayor Clayton shared an inaugural address to the community, where she thanked outgoing City Councillors Friesen, Minhas, and Pilat, and also shared her hopes for the new council and upcoming term.

Deputy Mayor, Committee, and Board Appointments

Council approved the Mayor’s recommendations for Deputy Mayor. Each Councillor will serve as Deputy Mayor in a rotating schedule.

Councillors were appointed to the four standing council committees: Community Services, Corporate Services, Infrastructure and Economic Development, and Protective and Social Services.

  • Councillors Thiessen (chairperson), Bosch, and Berg are assigned to the Community Services Committee. Mayor Clayton is an ex-officio member.
  • Councillor Lehners (chairperson), O’Toole, and Blackmore are assigned to the Corporate Services Committee. Mayor Clayton is an ex-officio member.
  • Councillors O’Connor (chairperson), Blackmore, and Lehners, and Mayor Clayton are assigned to the Infrastructure and Economic Development Committee.
  • Councillors O’Toole (chairperson), Bressey, and Thiessen are assigned to Protective and Social Services. Mayor Clayton is an ex-officio member.

Councillors are also assigned to Council Committees and as representatives to regional communities.

The 2022 Council and Committee meeting schedule was approved as presented.

AUMA Board of Directors Nomination

Council endorsed the nomination of Councillor Bressey to the AUMA Board of Directors.

2021 Municipal Election Results

Council received the 2021 Municipal Election Results for information.
