Starting Wednesday, residents can expect some minor traffic delays around the city as well as limited availability at the Eastlink Centre due to the Alberta Summer Games.

Torch Relay

Wednesday afternoon from 3:30 p.m.- 6:30 p.m., the Torch Relay takes place with families from Grande Prairie and area carrying the torch from Evergreen Park to Muskoseepi Park.

The relay moves north on Resources Road, turns west on 97 Avenue, and then north on 102 Street before reaching Muskoseepi Park. This will take up one northbound lane on Resources Road. No intersection closures will be in effect, but there will be some minimal traffic impact as the runner comes through.

Drivers are asked to use caution when the relay runners are approaching. Residents are encouraged to come cheer on the event.

Triathlon

Triathlons take place on Saturday and Sunday and the routes will create some minor traffic disruptions from 6:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. each day.

The route takes participants from the Eastlink Centre, east on 68 Avenue, north on 100 Street to 75 Avenue where participants turn around and loop back to the starting point.

Westbound lanes on 68 Avenue will be closed. The eastbound lanes will have a single lane of traffic in each direction.

The southbound lanes on 100 Street will be closed off, with northbound lanes having single lanes of traffic travelling in each direction. Volunteers will be assisting any residents in the Bear Creek Condos who will need access in or out of their lots during this time.

The intersection of 68 Avenue and Kateri Drive will be blocked off with traffic re-routed.

Police will be present in marked cars on the 68 Avenue and 100 Street intersection and other locations along the route.

The ring road that goes around the Coca-Cola Centre will be blocked off Saturday and Sunday from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Parking will not be available at the Coca-Cola Centre parking lot during this time, but will remain open at the Eastlink Centre.
