The City of Grande Prairie is completing a multi-phase renewal of the Montrose Cultural Centre (MCC) to improve energy efficiency, modernize core building systems and support the long-term performance of this well-used community facility.
This renewal is a planned and budgeted investment to ensure the MCC remains safe, efficient and functional for years to come.
Construction began in fall 2025 and continues through late 2026. Work is taking place in planned phases to maintain public access and ensure all tenants remain open and operating during the project where possible.
What This Renewal Focuses On
This project focuses on improvements largely “behind the walls” that strengthen the building for long-term use, including:
- Upgrading internal mechanical, electrical and ventilation systems.
- Improving overall energy efficiency.
- Refreshing exterior elements, including cladding, windows and protective moisture layers.
- Supporting long-term durability of sidewalks and surrounding surfaces.
- Enhancing comfort and safety for visitors, tenants and staff.
While most upgrades will not change the visual design of interior spaces, they are essential to the MCC’s long-term performance and efficiency.
Project Timeline
- Phase 1 – Site Preparation & Early Structural Work (Oct–Dec 2025)
- Phase 2 – Interior Renewal (Feb–Mid/Late Summer 2026)
- Phase 3 – Exterior & Building Envelope Improvements (Mid–Late 2026)
- Final Completion: Anticipated late 2026.
