Residents may see City Parks crews in their neighbourhoods this fall and winter as the City has begun its annual tree pruning program, running from October 1, 2025, through April 2026.
The work focuses on protecting elm trees, which are particularly vulnerable to Dutch elm disease, while also caring for other public trees that need maintenance to keep Grande Prairie’s urban forest healthy and strong.
Pruning takes place during the provincially regulated fall and winter period when elm bark beetles are dormant. This helps reduce the risk of disease and supports the long-term health of the community’s tree canopy. Crews work in boulevards, along streets and in parks, following a rotating schedule and responding to urgent concerns as needed.
The City encourages residents to take part in caring for the community’s trees by reporting any that may need pruning or other attention. Reports can be submitted through Online Services at cityofgp.com, by calling 311, or by emailing info@cityofgp.com.
