Proclamations

Mayor Clayton proclaimed this week as National Forest Week and Rail Safety Week.

Each year National Forest Week is celebrated across Canada by many individuals and organizations. Forests are fundamental to our economy, culture, traditions and history – and to our future. 

Rail Safety Week educates and informs the public about rail safety and reminds people of ways to reduce the number of avoidable fatalities and injuries cause by incidents involving trains and citizens.

Reports

Council established Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at 1 p.m. at Teresa Sargent Hall, as the date, time, and location for a Joint Public Hearing for Bylaw C-1479, the Intermunicipal Development Plan.

Committee Business 

Council received the Council Remuneration Review Report 2024 for information and acknowledged that the Council Remuneration Review Committee completed its Ad Hoc role as requested. Council approved the recommendations in the Council Remuneration Review Report as presented. Administration was directed to consolidate Council Policy 100 and Council Procedure 100-1 into a single, streamlined, Council Policy 100.

As a result of the Public & Protective Services Committee meeting, Council will advocate for minimum EMS service levels and performance targets that meet or exceed those previously demonstrated in the City prior to the implementation of AHS EMS. They will also advocate for sustained provincial funding to implement Option 1, the Advanced Life Support - Fire Paramedic Response Unit.

Delegations

Kristina MacNeil and Michael Leroux spoke on behalf of Catholic Family Services to discuss the outcome of the funds provided by the Provincial government to support the Grande Prairie community. Mayor and Council carried out the advocacy request presented by the delegation and for Administration to work with Catholic Family Services on how the City can assist them.

Doug Edey attended today’s Council meeting as a delegate to thank Council for the Touch-a-Truck event and for their support of the Special Olympics Grande Prairie is hosting in 2025. Council voted to receive his presentation as information.
