What’s happening
- After our routine maintenance check, we identified that the lazy river’s liner is worn out. We’re replacing it, which is a large project, meaning the lazy river will be closed for the rest of the year. This is a normal life-cycle repair for a high-use feature at the Eastlink Centre.
- This work was originally planned for fall 2026; we’ve advanced it to 2025 to avoid repeat repairs and keep the lazy river feature reliable.
Why this is the right fix:
- A new purpose-built, durable liner will prevent leaks and extend the life of the lazy river. It comes with a 15-year warranty and offers better long-term value than short-term patch repairs.
Timeline
- Based on current supply and installation timelines, work is expected to finish by the end of December 2025.
What to expect
- The rest of the aquatics areas are on track to reopen Oct. 5 after the annual maintenance shutdown.
- Work areas around the lazy river will be fenced and clearly signed.
- Our team will adjust schedules and programming to reduce impacts as much as possible.
- Need to freeze or cancel your membership? Visit the front desk, call 311, or go to eastlinkcentre.ca/membership.
Stay updated
- We’ll share regular updates on what’s done, what’s next, and the reopening date on our website, social media, and on signs at the Eastlink Centre. Front-desk staff can also help with questions.
Thank you
- We appreciate your patience while we complete this work. It will help keep the facility safe, reliable, and in good shape for many years to come.

By prioritizing all repairs and maintenance to occur during the annual shutdown, the Eastlink Centre can provide a superior experience for residents during the rest of the year.Four to five weeks is a typically shutdown time for aquatics facilities. This allows contractors and staff to complete preventative work, repairs, a deep clean and upgrades to amenities.
Various reasons, including:
- Cleaning/sanitation: Pools require regular cleaning and sanitization to maintain water quality while operational. During the shutdown, the pools are drained for deep cleaning and sanitation including scrubbing of the walls and floors. During this process, the pool area needs to be closed to prevent the public from entering the area and being exposed to workplace activities and potentially harmful environments.
- Repairing/replacing equipment: Pools have extensive mechanical and electrical systems, such as pumps, filters, heaters, and lighting, etc. Over time, these components may require repairs or upgrades. When these maintenance repairs or upgrades are needed, the pool area must be closed to allow workers to access and service the pools and equipment safely, and minimize risk to the workers and the public.
The Aquatera Outdoor Pool will remain open for as long as the weather allows and will close for the season once the forecasted temperatures on average reach plus five degrees overnight to ensure no damage is done to the infrastructure.
