Transit and Transportation Information for City’s Canada Day Celebrations, Presented by New Horizon Co-op

The City of Grande Prairie is gearing up for another year of Canada Day festivities on Saturday, July 1, presented by New Horizon Co-op.

In addition to transit being free-of-charge, the City has extended the hours of service on July 1 as follows:

  • 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.: regular Saturday transit services.
  • 9:15 p.m. to 1 a.m.: on-demand and accessible transit services available between any stops within Grande Prairie. Rides can be booked for free until 12:30 a.m. online at gpmyride.app.ridewithvia.com, through the Grande Prairie My Ride app or by calling dispatch at 780-830-RIDE(7433).

“We’re thrilled to offer extended hours of transit service this year to help ensure Canada Day celebrations are accessible and provide residents a safe and reliable way to get to and from the event,” said Mayor Jackie Clayton. “We encourage everyone to come out and enjoy all the exceptional free activities to help make this year’s Canada Day festivities the best yet.”

Transit routes with stops at or near Muskoseepi Park include Route 8 (stop 836 at the Muskoseepi Park entrance), Route 3 and Route 4 (stops 304/404 at the top of Tieman Road) until 9 p.m. See transit times, routes and more in the rider’s guide, available on the Transit Routes & Schedules page under cityofgp.com/transit.

Transportation and Transit Impacts

Several roads and transit routes are impacted on Saturday, July 1 to accommodate the Canada Day parade.

Transportation delays are expected on Saturday, July 1 due to the following road closures:

  • 100 Avenue (between 96 Street and 106 Street) from 5 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • 108 Avenue (between 94 Street and 96 Street) from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • 96 Street (between 108 Avenue and 100 Avenue) from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Motorists are encouraged to use 92 Street or 108 Street to avoid delays northbound and southbound or 116 Avenue or 68 Avenue to avoid delays westbound or eastbound.

Transit Routes 1 and 3 are re-routing on Saturday, July 1 from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. and the following bus stops will be closed during the specified times:

  • Route 3 (from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.): stop 302.
  • Route 4 (from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.): stop 402.
  • Route 8 (from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.): stop 802.
  • Route 1 (from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.): stops 3000, 164 and 166.
  • Route 3 (from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.): stops 3000, 308, 306 and 304.

Transit Routes 4, 6, 7 and 8 are unavailable on July 1 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Routes 2, 5 and 9 are unaffected by Canada Day impacts.

The Canada Day parade begins at 2:30 p.m. and will travel from Hillside to Northwestern Polytechnic Parking Lot A via 100 Avenue.

The City looks forward to hosting another year of free Canada Day celebrations including swimming at the Aquatera Outdoor Pool, live entertainment, bouncy castles, carnival rides and games, a fireworks display and more.
