Neighbour Day takes place on September 14 and the City of Grande Prairie encourages residents to get out and celebrate with their community.
“Grande Prairie is a mid-sized city with big-city pride and connecting with our neighbours plays a big role in fostering that sense of belonging, value and inclusion,” said City of Grande Prairie Mayor, Jackie Clayton. “I encourage everyone to highlight our community as a place where friendships are grander by getting involved in Neighbour Day, whether it be hosting a block party or leaving a friendly note on a neighbour's door.”
There are many ways for residents to get involved in Neighbour Day to connect with or grow their community. Some examples of fun, easy neighbourhood activities include:
- Join or start a neighbourhood association.
- Organize or attend a community barbecue, picnic or potluck.
- Participate in a driveway or sidewalk art competition using sidewalk chalk.
- Help a neighbour with a small task like raking their lawn.
- Fill out the My Neighbourhood Card with your neighbours' information to help keep your neighbourhood safe and get to know your neighbours better.
- Purchase some treats to share with your neighbours or invite a neighbour over for coffee.
- Start a walking or running group.
- Decorate the front door of your home.
Whether residents are looking to join a neighbourhood association, plan a block party, create a neighbourhood association or see events your community is hosting, the City has resources to help navigate the process. See more information at cityofgp.com/neighbourhoods.
Neighbourhood Associations are invited to promote activities on the City’s event calendar by submitting a community event calendar request through access.cityofgp.com. For any questions regarding a community event submission, please contact AccessGP at info@cityofgp.com or by calling 311.
About Neighbourhood Associations
Neighbourhood Associations are registered societies that provide a central point of contact and a unified voice for the community. They provide a sense of place and belonging for residents through education and communication while creating the framework to advocate for community needs and to support various community initiatives.
