Proclamations

  • Mayor Clayton proclaimed September 10 to 18, 2022 as Welcoming Week. A global event that recognizes the people, places, and values that help everyone feel welcome and as though they belong in their community.
  • Mayor Clayton proclaimed September 19 to 25, 2022 as Rail Safety Week. The week is dedicated to reducing avoidable death, injury, and damage caused by incidents involving trains and citizens. CN has requested City Council proclaim Rail Safety Week in support of its ongoing efforts to raise awareness, save lives and prevent injuries in communities, including our municipality.

Delegations

  • The Grande Prairie and District Chamber of Commerce presented to City Council as a delegation to provide an update on the Regional Workforce Development Partnership. Council directed administration to include consideration of the Strategy in the fall budget deliberations.
  • The Grande Prairie Regional Tourism Association provided an update to City Council on their operations in the region to draw tourism to the region.
  • Rick Murray from Ducks Unlimited presented to City Council to introduce City Council to the Wetland Centre at Evergreen Park and invite Council to an upcoming open house.
  • Beth Enderson presented to City Council regarding a repeated overgrowth of Foxtail Weed resulting in challenges for the neighbourhood. City Council directed administration to brink back a report on how to curtail foxtail weed, along with potential enforcement actions.
  • Four residents presented to City Council on a variety of topics. The individuals include Daryl Hewko, Dione Martin, Melissa Badine, and Dallas Badine. All presentations were received for information and are available for viewing on the City YouTube channel.

Twin Ice Arena Naming Rights Partnership

City Council endorsed Design Works Inc, as the naming rights partner for the Twin Ice Arenas located in the Community Knowledge Campus.

The facility will be known as the Design Works Centre starting in November. The full press release is available for viewing on the City website.

Water North Coalition

City Council supported the appointment of a Council member to the Water North Coalition, with a member of administration to attend in a supporting role.

Stormwater Utility Model

City Council directed administration to proceed with a Stormwater Utility that is structured on an impervious surface area fee model.

Bear Creek North Area Structure Plan

City council approved amendments to the Bear Creek North Area Structure Plan, moving a future intersection on a quarter-section line on 116 Street between 132 Avenue and HWY 43 south by 90 m. The move allows a four-way intersection at a future access coming from the east.

Correspondence

Mayor Clayton shared with City Council correspondence regarding a resident who started an urban bee hive and was successfully able to produce honey. The urban bee hive was possible due to standards put in place by past councils.
