(Grande Prairie, Alta. – February 23, 2026) – City Council has approved a one-year Vandalism Recovery and Prevention Grant Pilot Program for 2026 to support eligible businesses impacted by vandalism and to encourage practical prevention measures intended to reduce repeat incidents.

The Vandalism Recovery and Prevention Program represents a proactive and balanced approach to supporting local businesses impacted by vandalism while encouraging preventative investments. This initiative directly supports Council’s strategic priorities by enhancing public safety, fostering economic and business resiliency, and contributing to the vibrancy of downtown. By reducing the visual and financial impacts of vandalism, the program aims to create a more welcoming and secure environment for residents, visitors, and businesses alike – strengthening community confidence and supporting a thriving local economy.

“Vandalism has real impacts on local businesses and on the community as a whole,” said City of Grande Prairie Mayor Jackie Clayton. “This pilot program provides practical support to help businesses recover and reduce the risk of future damage. At the same time, addressing vandalism is a shared responsibility, and we remind all residents and businesses to report concerns when you see them so we can all do our part to protect the spaces and services we all rely on.”
