Grande Prairie City Council has approved the Aging Well Together priorities, setting a clear path to enhance the community's age-friendliness in 2025.
The Aging Well Together initiative seeks to address the specific needs of the 19.3 per cent of the population that is ages 55 and older. The project kicked off in 2024 with community engagement, which helped inform and guide the priorities document.
The priorities highlighted in the Aging Well Together document include:
- Accessibility, mobility and connectivity.
- Communication & technology.
- Affordable living.
- Social participation, recreation and wellness.
- Community supports and health services.
Each priority highlights three or four goals for the City to action or implement in 2025. Many of the goals within the priority areas build on the vital work already being done by the City and many community partners continuously working together to enhance the quality of life for residents.
The goals outlined in the Aging Well Together priorities range from partnering with community organizations to host workshops to increasing awareness about key communication platforms to developing more outdoor walking groups for ages 55 plus.
“The Aging Well Together priorities are an important guide to support us while we build an inclusive, supportive and age-friendly community for residents of all ages,” said City of Grande Prairie Mayor, Jackie Clayton. “We’re optimistic that by actioning the items outlined in the priorities, we will directly contribute to better quality of life for older adults in Grande Prairie.”
