Celebrate culture and diversity at the City’s Heritage Day event taking place in the Grande Prairie Museum’s Heritage Village on August 3 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

“Our Heritage Day event is a special opportunity for our community to come together and honour the rich culture of our region and beyond,” said City of Grande Prairie Mayor, Jackie Clayton. “We encourage residents and visitors to join the celebration by attending the event or by setting up a cultural or community booth.”

The Heritage Day event highlights local history and diverse cultures in Grande Prairie through food, art and interactive activities. This year’s event features:

  • Community and cultural booths.
  • Old fashioned games and carnival games with prizes, including can toss, shooting gallery and top taffel.
  • Drumming circle performance from a local Indigenous group.
  • HAM (amateur) radio demonstrations. HAM radios were used as a communication tool back in the 20th century for people to talk across the world before cell phones were created.
  • Interactive demonstrations including ropemaking, old fashioned bingo, a blacksmith and laundry.
  • Food trucks with cultural food dishes.
  • And more!

Call for community and cultural booths

The City is looking for community and cultural groups to set up booths and participate during the Heritage Day event.

There are various unique benefits to signing up a booth at the Heritage Day event, including:

  • Showcasing your group’s heritage, traditions and customs.
  • Offering an opportunity to increase visibility and engage with the community.
  • Facilitating connections with other cultural and community groups.
  • Contributing to the overall celebration of cultural diversity at the event.
  • Educating others about the group’s history and their presence in the community.

Registered booths are encouraged to include interactive elements such as performances, activities or demonstrations to add to the overall event atmosphere.
