Snow Clearing Updates for December 16 to 20, 2019

There are two main ways the City runs snow plowing and ice control operations:

Priority Road Plowing and Ice Control
  • Occurs continuously throughout the winter in response to changing weather conditions.
  • The goal is to plow arterial (priority 1) and secondary (priority 2) roads to maintain clear access for emergency vehicles and general commuters.
  • Includes ice control operations such as sanding and salting, as well as windrow pick-up.
Residential Snow Clearing
  • Occurs in two-week rotations only when triggered by the City.
  • If a neighbourhood is not complete in week one, crews will return in week two.
  • Operated Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • The City hires contracted crews to plow residential roads.

Tuesday

Patterson and South Patterson and Southview.

Country Club Estates, Countryside North and South, Signature Falls and Country Club West.

Wednesday

Avondale, College Park and Swanavon/Highland Park (North).

Cobblestone, Fieldbrook, Highland Park (South), Riverstone and Smith.

Thursday

Kensington, Mission Heights, O’Brien Lake and Stone Ridge.

Pinnacle Ridge and Westpointe.

Friday

Arbour Hills, Gateway, Northridge, Royal Oaks and Westgate.

Lakeland, Easthaven, Crystal Ridge, Copperwood, and Crystal Lake Estates.

Friday, December 20, 2019: 

  • City crews have completed plowing priority 2 routes and have moved onto clear priority 3 routes. 
  • City crews are sanding and salting all the City's priority roads. 
  • City crews are also picking up snow piles from residential areas. 
  • Parking Bans on permanent snow routes are to be lifted at 9 p.m. on Friday, December 20.

Thursday, December 19, 2019: 

  • City crews are plowing and picking up windrows from priority 2 routes. 
  • City crews are also picking up snow piles from residential areas. 
  • Ice control measures, such as sand and salt, are being implemented on the priority road network. 

Wednesday, December 18, 2019: 

  • City crews continue to plow priority 2 routes, as well as sand/salt priority 1, 2, and 3 roads.
  • Crews are actively sanding/salting the City's trail network.
  • A parking ban on permanent snow routes is still in effect. 

Tuesday, December 17, 2019: 

  • City crews are: 
    • Plowing and picking up windrows from Priority 2 routes.
    • Actively sanding/salting the City's priority road network.
    • Plowing, sanding, and salting the City's trail network. 
  • Parking bans are still in effect on all permanent snow routes. 

Monday, December 16, 2019:

  • City crews have completed plowing priority 1 routes and have begun plowing priority 2 routes. 
  • City crews are actively sanding/salting priority 1, 2, and 3 routes. 
  • The City's trail network is being plowed and sanded/salted. 
  • Parking bans on permanent snow routes are still in effect.
