JOINT MEDIA RELEASE - The Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) teams from the City of Grande Prairie, County of Grande Prairie and the towns of Beaverlodge, Sexsmith and Wembley are excited to announce the call for nominations for the Passionate Heart Awards.

This annual event shines a spotlight on the extraordinary contributions of individuals, teams and businesses committed to improving lives in the community. The awards provide a unique opportunity to recognize the exceptional dedication and innovation in the social services sector.

The City is seeking an exceptional woman to deliver the keynote address at the 2025 Women of Influence Awards luncheon.  

Proposals are being accepted now until November 29, 2024 for women who embody the spirit of the awards and can inspire the audience through personal experiences and insights.

On October 17, the City of Grande Prairie, in partnership with local organizations and educational institutions, hosted Opportunities for All: Tackling Poverty Together event in recognition of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. The event highlighted the importance of collective action in addressing social challenges and emphasized the strength of community collaboration. 

On October 9, the City of Grande Prairie is taking part in a coordinated effort to measure homelessness across Alberta and Canada as part of the annual Everyone Counts: Point in Time (PiT) Count of homelessness. 

The count tracks homelessness in many forms including people staying in emergency shelters, short-term housing and more to improve understanding of the needs and circumstances of the people who are affected by homelessness in the community.

The City of Grande Prairie’s Youth Advisory Council (YAC) is seeking passionate young individuals eager to make a difference in their community. With the application deadline approaching on October 15, 2024, now is the time for youth aged 14 to 24 who have been considering joining to submit their applications.

The City of Grande Prairie’s Local Immigration Partnership (GPLIP) invites all residents to join in the upcoming Welcoming Week celebrations from September 13 to 22.

Welcoming Week aims to connect new arrivals with long-standing residents, fostering a sense of belonging across the community. The week’s events will highlight the extensive support, services, and amenities that Grande Prairie offers, all while building bridges and creating spaces where everyone feels welcome.

During a special proclamation ceremony hosted at Sunrise House on May 1, Grande Prairie, Mayor Jackie Clayton, officially announced the kick-off to Youth Week 2024, running from May 1 to May 7. In conjunction with the kick-off, the event also featured the unveiling of a community-driven art project created during the City’s Youth Career Discovery Expo.

The Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) teams at the County of Grande Prairie, City of Grande Prairie, and towns of Beaverlodge, Sexsmith, and Wembley invite local seniors for their Bi-annual Seniors’ Tea event, presented by CatWauk Compression Ltd. The event will take place on Thursday, June 13, 2024, from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the TARA Centre at Evergreen Park.

City Council has approved Cedar Point as the official name of the Coordinated Care Campus facility.
