Athletes of all ages and abilities are invited to swim, bike and run their way through the Grande Prairie Triathlon as it returns to Eastlink Centre on July 12, 2026.
The annual event continues to be one of the community's signature sport tourism events, attracting participants, volunteers and spectators from across the region and beyond.
Open to participants ranging from young athletes in the Kids of Steel races to experienced competitors, the Grande Prairie Triathlon creates opportunities for people to challenge themselves, stay active and connect through sport. The event is designed to be accessible to all skill levels, including first-time triathletes, teams and seasoned competitors.
In addition to encouraging physical activity and personal achievement, the event supports local tourism and economic activity by welcoming visitors who stay in local accommodations, dine at local restaurants and explore the community throughout the weekend. The Grande Prairie Triathlon has continued to grow its profile in Alberta's triathlon community and is sanctioned by Triathlon Alberta.
"The Grande Prairie Triathlon is about much more than crossing the finish line," said City of Grande Prairie Mayor, Jackie Clayton. "It brings people together, supports healthy lifestyles and showcases Grande Prairie as a welcoming destination for recreation and sport. Whether someone is participating, volunteering or cheering from the sidelines, the event creates connections that last long after the final athlete crosses the finish line."
The success of the event is made possible through the support of volunteers, community partners and sponsors who help deliver a safe and memorable experience for athletes and their families.
Event Details
Race categories include Kids of Steel, Try-a-Tri, Sprint and Team Sprint options, providing opportunities for participants at every stage of their triathlon journey.
Registration is open until July 5. Residents are encouraged to sign up, volunteer or come out to support athletes on race day.
