(Grande Prairie, Alta. – July 8, 2026) – Residents are advised of temporary road closures, transit impacts and aquatics closures on July 11 and 12 as the City of Grande Prairie hosts the annual Grande Prairie Triathlon at Eastlink Centre.
The Grande Prairie Triathlon welcomes athletes of all ages and abilities from Grande Prairie and beyond to compete while showcasing our city’s active community. Residents and visitors are encouraged to plan ahead for temporary impacts and cheer on participants throughout the weekend.
Eastlink Centre Aquatics Impacts
Temporary aquatics closures are required to accommodate event setup, the triathlon and event takedown:
- Saturday, July 11: The aquatics area will close at 6:30 p.m. for event setup.
- Sunday, July 12: The aquatics area will be closed from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Public swimming will resume at 4 p.m.
All other areas of Eastlink Centre will remain open and operate according to their regular schedules.
Transportation Impacts
Motorists should expect delays due to the following temporary road closures:
- North Knowledge Way beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday, July 11.
- 68 Avenue closed in both directions from West Knowledge Way to Poplar Drive beginning at 5 a.m. on Sunday, July 12.
- 100 Street from 67 Avenue to 72 Avenue beginning at 5 a.m. on Sunday, July 12.
- Kateri Drive at 68 Avenue beginning at 5 a.m. on Sunday, July 12.
There will be no through traffic on Kateri Drive (east of Mission Heights Drive) beginning at 5 a.m. on Sunday. Both roads will remain open for local traffic only.
All roads are expected to reopen by 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 12.
Transit Impacts
Grande Prairie Transit will continue operating throughout the weekend with the following service adjustments:
Saturday, July 11
- Riders may experience minor rerouting delays. No bus stops will be missed.
Sunday, July 12
Routes 1, 2 and 5 will be rerouted from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The following stops will be temporarily closed:
- Route 1: Stops 118, 120, 124 and 2000
- Route 2: Stops 224, 226, 228, 230, 234, 236, 238 and 2000
- Route 5: Stops 528, 530, 532, 534, 536, 540 and 2000
Residents are encouraged to plan ahead and allow additional travel time when using transit during the event.
