(Grande Prairie, Alta. – August 28, 2026) – Learning to use a new transit system can mean figuring out everything from where to catch the bus and how to pay a fare, to where to transfer and when to request a stop.

The City of Grande Prairie is making that learning process easier with a free Transit Discovery Tour on September 16 or 18, giving residents a chance to learn how to use Grande Prairie Transit in a guided, hands-on experience.

Two free tour dates are available:

  • Wednesday, September 16: 5 to 7:30 p.m.
  • Friday, September 18: 2 to 4:30 p.m.

Registration is required and is available online or by calling 311.

Designed for residents who are new to transit or want to feel more comfortable using the system, the sessions will take participants out on a bus to learn practical skills they can use on future trips. Along the way, they will learn about fares, passes, transfers, trip planning, accessibility features, requesting stops and navigating the Town Centre Mall Transit Hub.

“Being able to get around your community independently opens the door to so much more, whether that’s accessing services, getting to work or school, or taking part in community life,” said City of Grande Prairie Mayor, Jackie Clayton. “The Transit Discovery Tour is about giving residents the knowledge and confidence to make those connections and helping them feel more at home in Grande Prairie.”

Each tour begins and ends at the Grande Prairie Public Library and includes an indoor Transit 101 session where participants can ask questions and build their knowledge of the transit system. Light snacks and beverages will be provided, and participants will also have a chance to win door prizes.

The experience goes beyond learning how to ride the bus. Along the route, participants will discover organizations featured in Passport to Grande Prairie, hear directly from community representatives about the services they offer and collect Passport stamps at participating stops. By the end of the tour, participants will have made progress on their Passport while becoming more familiar with services and resources available throughout Grande Prairie.
