The City of Grande Prairie is beginning its annual bridge maintenance program at multiple locations throughout the city, to preserve critical infrastructure, improve safety and extend the service life of both vehicle and pedestrian bridges.
Work is anticipated to begin Tuesday, August 4, with crews starting at the pedestrian bridge near the Ernie Radbourne Pavilion in Muskoseepi Park before progressing to other bridge locations. The work is expected to continue until the end of October, weather permitting.
The current anticipated order of work is as follows:
Pedestrian bridges
- Pedestrian bridge near the Ernie Radbourne Pavilion in Muskoseepi Park
- Maskwoteh Park pedestrian bridge
- Pedestrian bridge near 71 Avenue
Traffic bridges
- 84 Avenue bridge, eastbound
- 99 Avenue bridge, eastbound
- 84 Avenue bridge, westbound
- 108 Street bridges
- Northbound bridge
- Southbound bridge
The schedule is subject to change based on weather, site conditions and operational requirements.
Temporary lane closures, shoulder closures, pathway restrictions or detours may be required as work progresses. Traffic control measures and signage will be in place where needed, and access will be maintained where possible.
Pedestrian bridges may be temporarily closed during washing operations. Signed pedestrian detours will be in place at each location.
The City will provide additional service updates before work begins at individual locations if traffic restrictions, pathway closures or other significant impacts are expected.
Residents are reminded to slow down in construction zones, follow posted signage and watch for workers and equipment.
