Grande Prairie youth are invited to take on GP Transit Quest this August, a free, month-long scavenger hunt designed to help youth become more comfortable and confident using Grande Prairie Transit while exploring destinations across the city.
Open to youth ages six to 17, GP Transit Quest combines adventure with hands-on transit experience as participants travel to Grande Prairie's four major transit hubs and one popular community destination. Along the way, they'll learn how to navigate routes, make transfers and discover places they can continue to visit using their Youth SUPERPASS.
Participants can complete the quest in one day or at their own pace throughout August.
"GP Transit Quest is about giving youth the confidence to use transit while having fun exploring their community," said City of Grande Prairie Mayor Jackie Clayton. "I encourage youth to make GP Transit Quest part of their summer. Whether you're exploring on your own, with friends or with your family, it's a chance to discover new places, learn a practical life skill and see more of everything Grande Prairie has to offer."
The quest begins at the Towne Centre Mall Transit Hub, where all Grande Prairie Transit routes connect, before continuing to:
- Community Knowledge Campus / Eastlink Centre
- Northwestern Polytechnic
- Prairie Mall
- Grande Prairie Museum & Heritage Village
Each mission provides transit directions and fun challenges to complete along the way.
Every participant will receive a complimentary Eastlink Centre day pass, which can be used during their visit or saved for a future trip. Prairie Mall is also supporting GP Transit Quest by providing $20 gift cards to the first 10 participants who complete the Prairie Mall mission. Participants who complete all five missions will be entered for a chance to win an iPad.
Participation is free. Eligible youth ride free with their Youth SUPERPASS. Parents, guardians and other accompanying adults are welcome to join the adventure but pay the regular transit fare.
A smartphone or tablet is required to participate using the Goosechase app. Participants ages 13 and under should complete the quest with a parent or guardian.
Registration opens August 1.
