Families are invited to step back in time and get creative as children’s craft sessions return to the Reverend Forbes Homestead this summer.

Children’s craft sessions will be offered during select Homestead Tea dates on July 22, July 29, August 12, and August 20. Children aged five to ten are invited to participate at no additional cost with a tea reservation.

Following tea, children will enjoy a story from a local children’s author before taking part in a themed craft or hands-on activity inspired by the book. All craft materials are provided, and parents or caregivers are welcome to join their children during the activity.

"The Reverend Forbes Homestead is one of Grande Prairie's most treasured historic sites, and these craft sessions provide a wonderful opportunity for families to experience our local history together," said Grande Prairie Mayor Jackie Clayton. "Featuring local children's authors alongside hands-on activities makes this a unique experience that encourages young readers while bringing our community's history to life."

About the Reverend Forbes Homestead and Homestead Teas

The Reverend Forbes Homestead, Grande Prairie's oldest home, also includes the community's first hospital and offers visitors a glimpse into the area's early history. Homestead Teas provide a relaxed setting to experience this historic site while enjoying a traditional afternoon treat.

Tea reservations are required and can be made by calling the Grande Prairie Museum at 780-830-7090. The cost is $10 per person and includes a freshly baked scone with jam and butter, along with a choice of tea, coffee, or juice. Guests are encouraged to indicate if children will be participating in the craft session when making their reservation.
