(Grande Prairie, Alta. – July 15, 2026) – Step back in time and experience the traditions, skills and stories that helped shape the region at the City of Grande Prairie's annual Heritage Day celebration on Saturday, August 1, from noon to 5 p.m. at the Grande Prairie Museum's Heritage Village.

The free event invites residents and visitors of all ages to explore local history through live demonstrations, interactive activities, cultural experiences and family-friendly entertainment. From trying traditional skills to meeting local community groups, Heritage Day offers something for everyone to discover.

Here’s what you can look forward to: 

  • Interactive Tun 'n Scrub laundry activity. 
  • Live blacksmithing demonstrations. 
  • Rope-making, scavenger hunts, old-fashioned activities and traditional carnival games.
  • Community and cultural booths. 

"When we celebrate where we've come from, we strengthen the connections that carry our community forward," said City of Grande Prairie Mayor, Jackie Clayton. "By honouring the stories, traditions and cultures that have shaped our community, Heritage Day helps foster a sense of connection and belonging for everyone who calls Grande Prairie home."
