Road rehabilitation is beginning this week on sections of 100 Avenue and 116 Street as part of the City of Grande Prairie’s 2026 capital construction program.

Traffic will remain open during construction but will be reduced to alternating single lanes through active work zones. A reduced speed limit of 30 km/h will be in effect and short-term closures may occur. Local access will be maintained, and sidewalks and pathways will remain open.

100 Avenue

Road rehabilitation begins Thursday, August 13 on 100 Avenue between Range Road 70 East and 108 Street.

This work continues improvements already underway along the corridor. Earlier construction addressed two major intersections, including 100 Avenue and 116 Street, and crews are now moving to the roadway sections between and around those locations.

Work includes asphalt milling and overlay paving, pavement repairs, minor storm sewer repairs, concrete spot replacements, refreshed line markings and crosswalks and final landscaping.

Construction is anticipated to be complete by early September, weather permitting.

116 Street

Road rehabilitation is scheduled to begin the week of August 17 on 116 Street between 97 Avenue and 124 Avenue.

Work includes asphalt milling, storm sewer repairs, overlay paving and refreshed line markings.

Construction is anticipated to be complete by mid-September, weather permitting.

Transit stops will remain open during both projects, but riders may experience delays due to reduced lane capacity in the construction areas.

Drivers travelling through either construction area should slow down, follow posted signage and directions from flaggers, and allow extra travel time.
