(Grande Prairie, Alta. – August 7, 2026) – Every year, Eastlink Centre closes its aquatics area so essential maintenance can be completed to help keep the facility safe, reliable and operating year-round. This year's annual aquatics maintenance shutdown will take place from September 1 to October 1.
Aquatic facilities operate in a demanding environment, with constant exposure to water, humidity, pool chemicals and heavy daily use. The planned shutdown provides dedicated time for inspections, preventative maintenance and repairs that cannot safely or effectively be completed while the facility is operating.
Much of the work completed during the shutdown is preventative. Addressing maintenance before problems occur helps extend the life of the facility, maintain water quality and safety standards, and reduce the risk of unexpected service disruptions throughout the year.
During the shutdown, crews will complete annual inspections, preventative maintenance and repairs throughout the aquatics area, including work on pool mechanical and water systems, aquatic features, electrical and plumbing infrastructure, pool surfaces and change rooms. The scope of work is based on ongoing inspections, lifecycle planning and maintenance needs identified throughout the year.
"Whether someone is learning to swim, taking a fitness class or spending time with family, we want every visit to Eastlink Centre to be a positive one," said Recreation Director, Angela Redding. "The work completed during the shutdown may happen behind the scenes, but it plays an important role in protecting the facility and supporting the experience our guests look for when they visit."
Aquatics impacts and member supports
The aquatics area at Eastlink Centre will be closed from September 1 to October 1 while the work is completed.
Residents can continue enjoying the Aquatera Outdoor Pool until September 21, weather permitting. Registered swimming lessons and aquatic fitness classes will continue to be offered throughout the outdoor pool season. Eastlink Centre members can use their memberships for admission to the Aquatera Outdoor Pool during this time.
Eastlink Centre members and Grande Access Pass holders can also enjoy complimentary admission to public swim at Beaverlodge Swimming Pool through the NuVista Energy Centre partnership.
Throughout the shutdown, Eastlink Centre will continue offering dryland fitness classes for a variety of ages, abilities and activity levels. The fitness centre, walking track, PlayCare and West Fraser Fieldhouse remain ready to welcome guests.
