(Grande Prairie, Alta. – September 14, 2026) – The City of Grande Prairie is bringing GirlZone back for its fifth year on Saturday, October 3, giving girls ages 10 to 15 the opportunity to try new activities and explore their interests.

GirlZone connects participants with local organizations and instructors for a full day of hands-on experiences. The event is designed to introduce girls to activities they may not have tried before and help them find new ways to stay involved in recreation as they get older. 

“Creating opportunities for girls to stay involved in recreation as they grow is extremely important,” said City of Grande Prairie Mayor, Jackie Clayton. “GirlZone gives them a space to explore their interests, find activities they enjoy and build a sense of belonging that can encourage them to stay involved long after the day is over.”

Participants will register for a group and rotate through different activities throughout the day. A designated group is available for girls ages 13 to 15 who would like to participate with others in their age range. Girls ages 13 to 15 can choose the designated group, or select one of the other groups based on the activities that interest them most.

This year’s planned activities include:

  • Self-defence with SheRolls Jiu Jitsu.
  • Gymnastics with Grande Prairie Gymnastics.
  • Crafts with the Centre for Creative Arts.
  • Acting, singing and dancing with Grande Prairie Children's Theatre.
  • Cooking and nutrition with Revival Nutrition and Training.
  • Yoga with Rooted Heart Yoga and Art Studio.
  • At-home fitness with Eastlink Centre fitness instructors.
  • Zumba with Eastlink Centre fitness instructors.
  • Soccer with City of Grande Prairie programmers.
  • Pickleball with City of Grande Prairie programmers.

Activities are subject to change based on availability.

GirlZone takes place on Saturday, October 3 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Registration is $30 and includes lunch.
