Snow clearing and ice control operations update February 23 – 27

There are two main ways the City runs snow plowing and ice control operations:

Priority Road Plowing and Ice Control
  • Occurs continuously throughout the winter in response to changing weather conditions.
  • The goal is to plow arterial (priority 1) and secondary (priority 2) roads to maintain clear access for emergency vehicles and general commuters.
  • Includes ice control operations such as sanding and salting, as well as windrow pick-up.
Residential Snow Clearing
  • Occurs in two-week rotations only when triggered by the City.
  • If a neighbourhood is not complete in week one, crews will return in week two.
  • Operated Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • The City hires contracted crews to plow residential roads.

Week B

Monday

Hillside, Mountview and VLA/Montrose.

Crystal Heights, Crystal Landing, Summit and Ivy Lake Estates.

Tuesday

Patterson and South Patterson and Southview.

Country Club Estates, Countryside North and South, Signature Falls and Country Club West.

Wednesday

Avondale, College Park and Swanavon/Highland Park (North).

Cobblestone, Fieldbrook, Highland Park (South), Riverstone and Smith.

Thursday

Kensington, Mission Heights, O’Brien Lake and Stone Ridge.

Pinnacle Ridge and Westpointe.

Friday

Arbour Hills, Gateway, Northridge, Royal Oaks and Westgate.

Lakeland, Easthaven, Crystal Ridge, Copperwood, and Crystal Lake Estates.

Parking bans are in effect on Priority 1 and 2 routes, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. as of 7 a.m. on Wednesday, February 18.

February 27

Week B residential clearing is underway today in Lakeland, Easthaven, Crystal Ridge, Copperwood and Crystal Lake Estates. On Monday (March 2) Week B clearing continues in Crystal Heights, Crystal Landing, Summit and Ivy Lake Estates.

Week A neighbourhoods that were cleared at the beginning of the rotation will be reassessed for any needed touch-ups next week.

Temporary residential parking restrictions will be in effect from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on scheduled clearing days.

Daily operations also include blading and windrow removal on Priority 2 roads, as well as sanding on all Priority routes as needed.

February 26

Week B residential clearing begins today in Pinnacle Ridge and Westpointe. Crews move into Friday Week B areas tomorrow: Lakeland, Easthaven, Crystal Ridge, Copperwood and Crystal Lake Estates.

Remaining Week B areas will be completed next week. Week A neighbourhoods cleared last week will be reassessed for any needed touch-ups.

Temporary residential parking restrictions will be in effect from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on scheduled clearing days.

Today’s operations also include blading and windrow removal on Priority 2 roads. Crews continue clearing and sanding all Priority routes as needed. Blading continues in City facility parking lots.

February 25

Week A residential clearing wraps up today (Avondale, College Park, Swanavon). Week B begins tomorrow in Pinnacle Ridge and Westpointe and continues into next week. 

The City will assess Week A areas completed last week and revisit them, if needed, once all Week B neighbourhoods are complete.

Temporary residential parking restrictions will be in effect from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on scheduled clearing days.

  • Priority 2 routes: Highland Park, Swanavon, Cobblestone, Smith
  • Windrows: Royal Oaks, Pinnacle
  • Back lanes: Avondale
  • Ice control on Priority Roads
  • Water truck supporting drainage downtown and other areas as needed

February 24

A two-week round of residential snow clearing is underway. Crews aim to complete Week A neighbourhoods today and tomorrow and will begin Week B on Thursday this week.   

Today (Tuesday, Week A):

Patterson, South Patterson and Southview.

Tomorrow (Wednesday, Week A):

Avondale, College Park and Swanavon.

Temporary residential parking restrictions will be in effect from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on scheduled clearing days.

  • Priority Roads: Crews are blading Priority 2 routes in Patterson and Country Club. 
  • Windrows: Windrow removal is underway in Pinnacle. 
  • Ice Control: Sanding on Priority Roads continues daily. 
  • Parking Lots: City facility parking lot clearing is ongoing. 

February 23

A two-week round of residential snow clearing is underway.

Crews continue in Week A neighbourhoods today through Wednesday, moving to Week B neighbourhoods starting Thursday.

Temporary residential parking restrictions will be in effect from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on scheduled clearing days.
