Snow clearing update for December 9-13

There are two main ways the City runs snow plowing and ice control operations:

Priority Road Plowing and Ice Control
  • Occurs continuously throughout the winter in response to changing weather conditions.
  • The goal is to plow arterial (priority 1) and secondary (priority 2) roads to maintain clear access for emergency vehicles and general commuters.
  • Includes ice control operations such as sanding and salting, as well as windrow pick-up.
Residential Snow Clearing
  • Occurs in two-week rotations only when triggered by the City.
  • If a neighbourhood is not complete in week one, crews will return in week two.
  • Operated Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • The City hires contracted crews to plow residential roads.

Arbour Hills, Gateway, Northridge, Royal Oaks and Westgate.

Lakeland, Easthaven, Crystal Ridge, Copperwood, and Crystal Lake Estates.

December 13:

  • Residential Touch-ups: Crews are addressing missed areas and touching up areas of concern in Friday "Week B" neighbourhoods: Crystal lake, Lakeland and Crystal Ridge. If time permits, crews will move into Friday “Week A” neighbourhoods.
    • Crews will be in Monday "Week B" areas on Monday, December 16. Please ensure your vehicles are moved off the road if you are in Crystal Heights, Crystal Landing, Summit and Ivy Lake Estates.
  • Priority Road Ice Control: Crews are sanding icy areas throughout residential neighbourhoods. 
  • Priority Road Clearing: Crews are loading windrows in Crystal Landing and Mountview. Crews are also blading and clearing out back lanes in Westpointe.

Residential Snow and Ice Clearing

Crews will return to residential neighbourhoods next week; however, a two-week residential clearing rotation has not been declared. Instead of the usual two-week rotation, crews are following a day-to-day schedule. Snow clearing will focus on neighbourhoods scheduled for each day, with crews working in Week A, Week B, or both, depending on the need. Temporary no-parking signs will be posted, but as crews make progress, please move your vehicle off the street when snow-clearing equipment is in your area to help them work efficiently. Please do not wait for crews to arrive if temporary parking ban signs are in place, your vehicle may be ticketed. 

Permanent snow route parking bans are active. These bans mean no parking is allowed on Priority 1 and 2 routes from Monday to Friday, between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m., until the ban is lifted.

December 12:

  • Residential Touch-ups: Crews are addressing missed areas and touching up areas of concern in Thursday "Week B" neighbourhoods: Pinnacle Ridge and Westpointe.
  • Priority Road Ice Control: Crews are sanding icy areas throughout residential neighbourhoods. 
  • Priority Road Clearing: Blading and snow blowing is underway in Swanavon and Avondale. Crews are also clearing our back lanes in Pinnacle and Westpointe. 
  • Parking Lots: Crews continue to patrol and sand City facility parking lots as needed. 
  • Drainage: Water trucks are out today patrolling and maintaining drainage.

Residential Snow Clearing: Crews will return to residential neighborhoods this week, operating on a day-to-day schedule rather than the usual two-week rotation. They will aim to clear snow in the neighborhoods scheduled for each day. If you see temporary parking ban signs or snow-clearing equipment in your area, please move your vehicle to help crews work efficiently.

December 11:

  • Residential Touch-ups: Crews are addressing remaining snow in Wednesday "Week B" areas: Cobblestone, Fieldbrook, Highland Park, Riverstone and Smith. Crews have also started clearing out back lanes in Pinnacle. 
  • Priority Road Ice Control: Crews patrolled priority roads this morning and are now sanding icy areas throughout residential neighbourhoods. 
  • Priority Road Clearing: Blading and snow blowing is underway in Countryside South, Design Works Centre and Stone Ridge.
  • Parking Lots: Crews continue to sand haul snow piles from City facility parking lots. 
  • Drainage: Water trucks are out today patrolling and maintaining drainage.

Residential Snow Clearing: Crews are returning to residential Week B neighbourhoods this week, working on a day-by-day basis instead of following the usual two-week rotation. Efforts will be made to clear in the neighborhoods each day is assigned to. If you notice temporary parking ban notices or snow clearing equipment in your area, please move your vehicle to allow crews to work effectively.

Permanent snow route parking bans are active. These bans mean no parking is allowed on Priority 1 and 2 routes from Monday to Friday, between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m., until the ban is lifted.

December 10:

  • Residential Touch-ups: Crews are addressing remaining snow in Tuesday "Week B" areas, including Country Club Estates and Countryside North and South, while also identifying Week A areas needing touch ups. 
  • Priority Road Ice Control: Crews are actively monitoring and sanding throughout the city. 
  • Priority Road Clearing: Blading and snow blowing is underway in Cobblestone, focusing on the school zone area, and in Smith.
  • Parking Lots: Crews continue to sand haul snow piles from City facility parking lots. 

Permanent snow route parking bans are active. These bans mean no parking is allowed on Priority 1 and 2 routes from Monday to Friday, between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m., until the ban is lifted.

UPDATE December 9:

Contractors will begin work tomorrow, December 10, in Country Club, Country Side North and Country Side South.

Crews will also revisit Week B areas that were missed last week. Additionally, while in the area, they will check Tuesday Week A neighborhoods — Patterson, South Patterson and Southview — for any problem areas and address them as needed.

  • Residential Touch-ups: Crews are addressing remaining snow in Monday's "Week A" areas, including Hillside, Mountview and VLA/Montrose.
  • Priority Road Ice Control: Crews are actively monitoring and sanding all Priority roads to manage icy conditions.
  • Priority Road Clearing: Snow clearing continues on Priority roads, with a focus on Hillside and Crystal Heights.
  • Parking Lots: Crews have started hauling snow piles from City facility parking lots and are also sanding these areas for added safety.

Residential Snow Clearing Update:

  • Crews are returning to "Week A" neighbourhoods this week, working on a day-by-day basis instead of following the usual two-week rotation. This adjustment helps address areas impacted by fresh snowfalls that occurred after the initial clearing.
  • Cleanup in "Week B" neighborhoods that were not completed last week will also continue, though it may not follow the standard schedule.

  • Move Vehicles: If you notice temporary parking ban notices or snow clearing equipment in your area, please move your vehicle to allow crews to work effectively.
