The City of Grande Prairie is pleased to announce the launch of "GP Grows: On Tour," a series of engaging events designed to help residents connect with nature and enjoy the benefits of growing their own food. This season, the City invites the community to participate in gardening at home, explore edible landscapes, and visit community orchards brimming with fresh fruit.
"GP Grows: On Tour" offers a variety of garden and orchard tours, each tailored to provide valuable knowledge and skills that can be used to enhance local yards and gardens. These tours will help residents learn how to prep, plant, maintain, and harvest their gardens and orchards throughout the year.
Garden Tours:
Learning Garden at Design Works Centre 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
- May 27: Prepping and Planting Your Garden
- July 8: Thriving Your Garden and Pest Control
- August 26: Harvesting Your Garden and Prepping for Next Year
Orchard Tours:
Community Orchards 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
- June 19: Weeds and Pollinators- Mike Fedyna Park Orchard
- July 17: Planting/Transplanting, Pruning and Tree Maintenance - Obrian Orchard
- August 28: Harvesting and Fall Prep - Country Club Orchard
"We look forward to offering these educational and interactive tours to our community," said the City of Grande Prairie’s Environmental Programming Facilitator, Kierstyn Otterman. "GP Grows: On Tour provides an excellent opportunity for residents to gain valuable gardening skills and enjoy the many benefits of growing their own food."
