Geotechnical Drilling at South Bear Creek Park Ball Diamond Number 3

On Friday, October 21, crews begin underground assessments through geotechnical drilling at South Bear Creek Park ball diamond number 3.

The work is needed to understand underground conditions and confirm what is required for future lighting installation at the ball diamond.

Methane gas is present underground due to the area previously being used as a landfill.

A methane monitoring plan has been put into place to mitigate the possible risks, protect the adjacent neighbourhoods, and allow work to proceed safely. The Grande Prairie Fire Department has also been notified of the work occurring and may offer assistance if needed.

Depending on methane levels, the trail may be temporarily closed off as a safety precaution.

The work is anticipated to last one day, weather permitting.
