The City of Grande Prairie’s Pursuit of Excellence Fund is designed to provide assistance to athletes, coaches, and sport organizations in the region to achieve "excellence" in their chosen sport. The fund is a legacy of the 1995 Canada Winter Games that were hosted in Grande Prairie, and also includes a partnership with the Community Foundation of Northwestern Alberta.
The greatest impact on sport development will be made by competent, enthusiastic coaches. The highest priority will be given to coach education, particularly where that education will take place locally through clinics and conferences. The second priority will be to assist in the training and development of individual athletes. Funding will be given in situations where assistance is necessary to take the sport to the next level. The third priority will be to provide assistance in developing volunteers and officials.

Eligible applicants must reside within the 100km radius as shown in the map above.

Pursuit of Excellence Budget
The Committee grants up to $42,500 each year to athletes, coaches, volunteers, and sport organizations, with a policy that no single sport can receive more than 20% of the annual budget for the grant.
This budget comprises contributions from the following sources: $30,000 from the Canada Winter Games legacy funds and $12,500 from the City of Grande Prairie. Additionally, the Community Foundation of Northwestern Alberta contributes, with their funds directly supporting the Come Fly With Me Fund.
