Registered non-profits hosting sporting events can now apply to receive up to $5,000 from the City of Grande Prairie’s new Sport Hosting Grant.
The fund was created to support and encourage local organizations to hold various sporting events in the community.
The new Sport Hosting Grant aims to encourage organizations to host events that bring more visitors to Grande Prairie, and better support the significant positive economic, social and health benefits on the community from sport tourism.
Sport Hosting Grant Eligibility
To be eligible for funding from the Sport Hosting Grant, events must:
- Take place over a minimum of two days
- Be a provincial, western Canada, national, or international sporting event
- Be hosted by a registered non-profit organization
Events taking place in the City of Grande Prairie will take priority and consideration will be given to regional events. Successful applicants can use funding for operating expenses such as facility rentals, marketing, communications, transportation, security, accommodations, and officials.
The Sport Hosting Grant cannot be used to fund playoffs, league games, event bids, recreational activities or for a non-profit’s internal operations.
