The City of Grande Prairie is considering amendments to the Land Use Bylaw to promote forms of housing that are more suitable for families and may provide more options for homeownership.

The proposed changes affect the RT – Residential District, a zone that is applied to parts of mature neighbourhoods where there is an interest in redevelopment.

The proposed changes modify standards so that narrow lot single-detached homes are possible, and townhomes no longer require a variance on a typical infill lot. These changes will not affect the maximum density allowed. These forms of housing provide private outdoor space, making them more attractive to families, and more likely to be owner-occupied, compared to triplexes, creating more affordable homeownership options.

The proposed bylaws will be considered during a public hearing at the regularly scheduled May 3, 2021 City Council meeting. Due to COVID-19, the City of Grande Prairie has moved all public meetings of Council to an online, livestream platform that may be viewed on our YouTube channel.

Anyone wishing to attend to speak as a delegate must contact Legislative Services at AgendaAdmin@cityofgp.com to submit their presentations via email, or receive access to attend remotely via Zoom.

A copy of the proposed bylaws is available at www.cityofgp.com/publichearings. They may also be viewed at the Planning and Development Department located in the City Service Centre. Our address is 9505 – 112 Street and hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
