The City of Grande Prairie’s Active Play Park Program returns for the season on July 2, 2019.
Active Play is a free, drop-in, recreational activity, encouraging creative and active play between children in public, outdoor space. It takes place across a variety of parks and playgrounds throughout the summer to encourage children to play and make new friends within their community.
The Active Play leaders visit a different playground each weekday afternoon from 1:30 p.m.- 4:30 p.m. from July 2 - August 23. The locations for this year are as follows:
- Jul 2- 5: J.C. Mackie Park (Westgate)
- Jul 8-12: Gabriel Mason Park (Country Side South)
- Jul 15- 19: Allan Hauger Park (Crystal Heights)
- Jul 22-26: Henderson Park (Patterson)
- Jul 29- Aug 2: Mike Fedyna Park (Hillside)
- Aug 6-9: J.B. Oliver Park (Country Side South)
- Aug 12-16: Veterens Park (Swanavon)
- Aug 19-23: Head and Salmond Family Park (Royal Oaks)
The program is geared towards children ages 8-13 years old and is free for all to attend.
The role of the Active Play leaders is to observe participants while facilitating and encouraging spontaneous play. Leaders do not provide child care services.
Each session is weather dependant and subject to change.
