Construction Zone – Safety (Speeding)
As the City works hard to improve and revitalize our roads, Enforcement Officers will spend the month of July concentrating on road safety within construction zones.
Annually, there is construction work in and around Grande Prairie that may have an impact on traffic. Motorists are reminded to use caution and slow down when approaching a construction or maintenance zone. Traveling over the posted speed limit increases the likelihood of a collision. The higher the speed of a vehicle, the longer it takes to stop. Slowing down and paying close attention to your surroundings reduces the risk of a collision.
In a construction zone there may be workers operating heavy equipment, working with hand tools, or directing traffic. Road workers could also be hidden behind equipment or construction materials.
In construction zones, drivers must follow the posted speed limit. When workers are present, fines for speeding are doubled.

Animal Licensing and Off Leash
During the month of July, Enforcement Services' Peace Officers will provide education, awareness, and enforcement of animal control issues, especially as it relates to the City's park system. Here are a couple things to keep in mind:
- When off their owner's property, dogs must be on a leash at all times. Dogs are not permitted within five (5) meters of any playground, athletic field (ie. Baseball field, soccer pitch), school property or any area where dogs are prohibited by signage.
- All animal solid waste must be picked up immediately and disposed of in a sanitary manner. Most of the city parks and walking trails have a bag dispenser to aid in the cleaning of animal solid waste.
- The City of Grande Prairie provides dog owners with a designated off leash areas located at:
- South Bear Creek Off-leash Area (99 Street just south of 68 Avenue).
- Royal Oaks Off-leash Area (just north of 117 Avenue).
- Crystal Ridge West Off-leash Area (directly east of 98 Street with access from 120 Avenue, 121 Avenue and 123 Avenue).
- Crystal Ridge Northeast Off-leash Area (Lakeland Drive just north of 123 Avenue with access from Lakeland Drive, 125 Avenue and 126 Avenue).
- All dogs and cats must be licensed with the City of Grande Prairie once the animal reaches three months of age. New Licenses, renewals and tag replacements can be purchased online at eServices.cityofgp.com, at the Grande Prairie Regional Animal Care Facility (12220 104 Avenue) or directly at Enforcement Services located in the City on 99th building (9910 99 Avenue).
