Health Care Strategy & Action Plan

As part of the City of Grande Prairie's 2024-2026 Action Plan | Health Care Attraction & Retention Strategy, the Family Physician Attraction Incentive Program is a key initiative to enhance health care services in our community. This strategy focuses on increasing awareness, offering targeted incentives, and strengthening infrastructure to attract and retain health care professionals.

Family Physician Attraction Incentive Program

The Family Physician Attraction Incentive Program supports family physicians committed to practicing in Grande Prairie for 36 months (3 years) by offering financial and non-financial incentives designed to recruit, integrate, and help physicians and their families thrive in the community.

Program Benefits:

  • Local Vouchers: Access to cultural, recreational, and educational experiences within the City.
  • Recreation & Wellness Passes: Family memberships to premier facilities such as Eastlink Centre (Grande Access Pass), Grande Prairie Storm games, or Nitehawk Adventure Park.
  • Travel Vouchers: Airfare support through major carriers like Air Canada or WestJet.
  • Financial Incentives: A non-repayable cash payment

Eligible physicians can apply if they meet residency, and practice criteria. This program fosters a thriving medical community, ensuring Grande Prairie continues to grow as a health care hub.

Grande Prairie Health Care Ambassador Program

To support the Health Strategy objectives, the Grande Prairie Health Care Ambassador Program is designed to identify community leaders and volunteers that can assist Invest Grande Prairie in welcoming new health care providers (physicians, specialists and allied health) from pre-re-location site visits to post-relocation community integration.

Eligibility

To become a community Ambassador, Invest Grande Prairie is looking for volunteers who:

  • Have a minimum of two years local experience in one or more of the following sectors: Commercial/Residential Real Estate, Banking, Insurance, Education, Local Programming or Not-for-Profit community supports (e.g. sports clubs, recreation, culture, etc.).
  • Have lived or worked in the City or surrounding region for a minimum of one year.
  • Are 18 years of age or older.
  • Demonstrate maturity, professionalism, accountability and a commitment to positively promoting the city and region to prospective and newly relocated health care workers and their families.

Interested community members can email the Invest Grande Prairie team at ecdevinfo@cityofgp.com to indicate their interest and receive further program details. Applications will be received on an ongoing basis, and ambassador engagement will be driven by workforce growth and newcomer needs.
