Seasonal street sweeping operations continue throughout the City of Grande Prairie in May and June.

Crews will street sweep priority 2 routes and transit bus routes in May, the operation is anticipated to take the entire month. Street sweeping crews will then move into residential areas for the month of June.

The City activated street sweeping operations at the beginning of April after the majority of spring melt had occurred and road conditions were dry and favourable for the most effective use of sweeping equipment.

A weekly schedule will be shared on the City of Grande Prairie social media and on the City’s website during May and June. The schedule indicates the day on which a specific road is to be swept. The schedule may be adjusted depending on weather conditions and equipment maintenance.

To ensure crews navigate the road efficiently and safely, residents are encouraged to check the weekly schedule and remove their parked vehicles from the roadside on their sweeping day.

The City’s street sweeping operations take place from Monday to Friday between the hours of 7:30 am to 9:30 pm. The City’s fleet consists of 4 roadway sweepers, 1 conveyor sweeper, 2 sidewalk/trail sweepers, 1 bobcat with a specialized attachment, and 2 tandem trucks

Street sweepers travel at a speed of about 5 to 10 km/h when collecting debris. Debris collected by street sweeping operations consist of mud, dirt, gravel, rocks, leaves, and other natural debris. Upon collection, the debris are discarded at the Aquatera landfill.

The public’s patience and understanding is appreciated as we keep our roads and community clean.
