The City of Grande Prairie snow removal crews continue to respond to recent heavy snowfall by plowing priority roads, residential roads, and hauling windrowed snow from driving lanes on priority roads.

Since late December, nearly 4500 truckloads of snow have been hauled away from Grande Prairie roadways.

Crews have completed plowing loose snow from priority 1 roads and are actively plowing to remove hard-packed snow. All priority 2 roads are expected to be plowed by mid-next week and windrows from priority 2 roads are expected to be picked up by the following week, weather dependant.

Snow removal services are completed by priority with an emphasis on plowing snow and hauling it away from arterial (priority 1) roads and collector (priority 2) roads to ensure safe access for emergency vehicles and travellers. Removing snow from these areas also increases visibility for commuters on high-traffic-volume roadways.

After these services are completed, crews begin to haul snow piles from low-traffic locations such as cul-de-sacs in residential areas.

Residential Snow Removal

Due to heavy snowfall, contracted crews require more time to plow roads in residential areas.

Another two-week round of residential snow clearing begins on Monday, January 10, 2022, occurring immediately after the completion of the current round of residential snow clearing that began on December 27, 2021.

Visit the City’s website for more information on residential snow removal.

Service Requests

The City of Grande Prairie has received a high volume of service requests about snow plowing and removal. Residents are encouraged to submit service requests for snow removal online through the AccessGP Portal.

The portal provides a streamlined and efficient experience for residents and City staff by ensuring all important information is collected initially, reducing time spent determining details by e-mail or over the phone.

Parking Bans

A parking ban on all permanent snow routes is in effect and is active from Monday to Friday between the hours of 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
