Phase one of construction to create a new accessible heated transit shelter in the west parking lot at the Eastlink Centre has commenced.
The two-step build starts with the transit shelter construction, which is expected to be completed by the end of March. Once the shelter is complete, crews will begin setting the shelter up for heat, which will take more time as it requires upgrading the electrical infrastructure.
The shelter is set to include a swinging door on one side of the transit shelter and a mechanical door on the other side, making it fully accessible to all community members.
Eastlink Centre visitors are advised that four parking spots next to the transit stop on the west side of the Eastlink Centre are currently unavailable due to the construction.
The City is installing the new heated shelter to improve customer experience and give passengers a comfortable place to wait for their bus during the harsh winter months.
