Grande Prairie, AB, October 13, 2022 – The City of Grande Prairie and County of Grande Prairie are joining the Grande Prairie & District Chamber of Commerce in proclaiming Small Business Week October 16-22, 2022.

“Small Business Week is our annual celebration of entrepreneurship in our region,” says Tertius Genis, Grande Prairie Chamber Chair. “Our vision is connecting business and creating opportunity while our mission is to facilitate and inspire world-class success of our business members. Small Business Week allows us a focused opportunity to do so with events such as our Women in Business Lunch, Rotary Lunch, and GP Chamber Awards of Distinction.”

In proclaiming Small Business Week, the City of Grande Prairie and County of Grande Prairie recognize the region’s economy is one of the most prosperous in the world, and the small business sector is one of its greatest strengths. The week highlights the positive impact that small business owners, operators, and employees have on local communities through their vision, responsibility, innovation, dedication, and hard work.

“Grande Prairie’s small businesses continually demonstrate a spirit of innovation, entrepreneurialism and resiliency, while providing our community with high-quality services and amenities that make this region a great place to live,” says Jackie Clayton, City of Grande Prairie Mayor. “Grande Prairie City Council joins the Chamber of Commerce and County of Grande Prairie in celebrating the efforts and accomplishments of small businesses and their owners who invest in our community day-after-day.”

More than two-thirds of employed Canadians work for a small business. Entrepreneurs play an important role in driving job creation, invention, and innovation.

“The County of Grande Prairie is home to a hardworking and industrious spirit, which laid the foundation for our region to become the entrepreneurial and resilient place it is today,” says Peter Harris, County of Grande Prairie Deputy Reeve. “County Council is proud to jointly proclaim Small Business Week together with the City of Grande Prairie and Chamber of Commerce to highlight the accomplishments of small businesses throughout our region and celebrate all that they contribute to our communities.”

The City of Grande Prairie, County of Grande Prairie and Grande Prairie and District Chamber of Commerce encourage all residents to learn more about the local business community and entrepreneurship in honour of Small Business Week.
