On Tuesday, July 5, road work begins on 100 Street from 116 Avenue to 128 Avenue.

The work planned for the area consists of storm infrastructure removal and replacement, concrete removals and installation, roadway reconstruction (gravel base and asphalt replacement), line painting, signage and landscaping.

A third lane is being added to 100 Street southbound from north of 124 Avenue to north of 116 Avenue, a recommendation from the City’s current Transportation Master Plan.

During construction, traffic is reduced to one lane northbound and one lane southbound and traffic flow alters from one side of the road to the other as construction progresses.

Sidewalk closures and sidewalk detours are expected as construction progresses. Transit operations in the area will be impacted in mid-July and more information will be announced in the coming weeks.

It is anticipated that crews operate from Monday to Saturday with work expected to be complete by October 2022.

Background

The City inherited the old Highway 43 Bypass from Alberta Transportation in 2019. As part of the hand over the City was provided $20 million from the Province.

The Transportation Master Plan was adopted in 2020 and includes recommendations for the City’s traffic, roads, and active transportation networks.
