The City of Grande Prairie advises that 132 Avenue (Highway 670) between 97B Street and 99 Street will be open to passenger traffic early this evening. The original incident causing the road closure occurred on July 9, 2024, when a CN contractor damaged an Aquatera water main during their work associated with the railway. CN has retained a contractor to complete the waterline and roadway repairs.

The truck route remains closed. Trucks entering the city eastbound are asked to divert to Highway 43.

Traffic Updates:

  • One lane of alternating traffic will be open to passenger vehicles only; no semi-trucks will be permitted until further notice.
  • Semi-trucks will be diverted around the site.
  • All work is weather-dependent.

The City thanks residents and drivers for their patience and cooperation.

Background:

The City of Grande Prairie owns the road infrastructure, Aquatera Utilities Inc. owns the water infrastructure, and CN was responsible for the work being carried out. This collaboration highlights the interconnected responsibilities and efforts required to address and resolve the issue efficiently.
