Road improvements are underway in the neighbourhoods of Lakeland and Smith.

Lakeland Drive

On Monday, May 9, road work on Lakeland Drive between 88 Street and 92 Street to repair the drive surface and base structure begins. The work includes some concrete and storm sewer repairs, line painting, and landscaping.

Traffic is restricted to a single lane and the speed limit is reduced to 30 km/hour during construction. Drivers are advised to proceed with caution, watch for flag people and anticipate potential traffic delays.

Pedestrian access is expected to be maintained along sidewalks and all traffic detours will be marked.

It is anticipated that crews will operate from Monday to Saturday with work expected to be complete by early July.

Smith Subdivision

On Monday, May 9, construction on 92 Avenue and Park Road from 89 Avenue to 92 Street continues to install utility service lines, build the road base structure and pave the driving surface.

This project began in 2021 and the full scope of construction includes deep utility installation, roadway improvements, streetlight installation, sidewalk installation, curb and gutter installation and tree planting.

Throughout construction residents travelling in this area may experience single-lane closures and temporary road closures requiring a detour.

In 2021, utility service to the Grande Prairie Activity & Reception Centre was completed and the addition of sidewalks in this area will improve accessibility to the facility.

It is anticipated that crews will operate from Monday to Saturday with work expected to be complete by the end of June.

About Road Work

In 2022, approximately $11 million is budgeted to be invested into the City’s road network. Major road work by the City occurs in three categories: road reconstruction, road overlay, and full-depth reclamation (FDR).
