The Downtown Rehabilitation and Streetscapes Project continues this summer along 100 Avenue between 98 Street and 100 Street with crews beginning construction on May 2.

Crews will complete street-level infrastructure including the installation of paving stones, concrete sidewalk base, street furniture, shrubs, trees, and other landscaping.

Traffic is expected to flow for the duration of the project, however minor traffic delays may occur due to 100 Avenue between 98 Street and 99 Street being down to one lane to allow space for crews to safely maneuver equipment and access materials.

Deep underground work, including the installation of sanitary, water, and storm lines and associated tie-ins to businesses, as well as paving stone installation on 100 Avenue between 99 Street and 100 Street was completed in 2021.

Construction is anticipated to be completed by early August 2022.

Anyone interested in learning more about the project is invited to drop into the in-person information session on Tuesday, April 26. For more details, please visit the City website.

Visiting the City Centre During Construction

Businesses remain open and accessible to the community, and visitors may park in designated areas.

Pedestrian access is expected to be maintained for most of the project, with front door access to businesses only restricted when the concrete base is being poured and curing along 100 Avenue between 98 Street and 99 Street.

About the Project

Phase 4 of the multi-year project consists of a budgeted $14 million investment in the city centre to replace and enhance underground infrastructure and streetscape features along 100 Avenue between west of 100 Street and 98 Street, amplifying Grande Prairie’s vibrancy and creating a high-density-development ready city centre for years to come.
